Charles J. Dwyer is a fine artist and printmaker recognized for his combination of the female form with autobiographical elements in oil, pastel, and conte pencil. In the early 2000s, Dwyer explored textural abstract works, influenced by the impromptu contributions of a longtime studio assistant. This new body of work introduced elements of Art Brut and reflected the textures and imagery from the early twentieth-century New York garment industry. Charles Dwyer's current work is an evolution of his earlier figurative pieces, representing the unfolding of his passion for an art that is simultaneously bold, complex, and abstract in its imagery, texture, motion, and color. Dwyer’s art has been featured in solo and group exhibitions across the United States, with national acclaim stemming from his sold-out solo exhibition in New York in 1992.
